Nature provided the inspiration for Grade 5’s watercolour leaves. We spoke about the different colours found in fall leaves and how individual leaves have many many colours on them. Next students drew different shaped leaves with oil pastel on watercolour paper. We discussed composition and how the leaves can also go off of the edges of the page to create interest.
Next, students painted the leaves, making sure to use several fall colours.
The following class, we discussed how Autumn skies are often shades of purplish grey which compliments the colours of the leaves. Students uses a wet on wet technique to paint the background and sprinkled on salt to create a textured effect.
Et Voila…Masterpieces!!!
