Grade 2 students journeyed through time to the LASCAUX CAVE in France. This famous cave contains some of the first drawings ever created by man. The cave was discovered in 1940 by 4 teenage boys who were walking their dog. Inside the cave, they found themselves surrounded by paintings on the walls and ceilings. This prehistoric artwork is estimated to be approximately 17,000 years old.

We were also inspired by the book The First Drawing, by Mordecai Gerstein.
OJCS students imagined that they were the boy in the story when they created their prehistoric artworks.
Students crumpled up their paper to create texture emulating a cave wall. Then they drew their prehistoric animal using oil pastels. The project was completed with chalk pastels in earth tones and torn around the edges for a special effect.

Morah Shira! Your projects are engaging and if Iwas a student I would be very excited to have you as my teacher.
Thank you Avi!
